Beauty?

Do you place a higher value on aesthetics and beauty or functionality and frugality? How do you make decisions between beautiful/expensive and not so beautiful/inexpensive? Where do you draw the line?

  1. Clothes: aesthetics AND frugality

Backpacking gear: functionality over everything, but frugal whenever all else is equal (my favorite gear manufacturer is Montbell; their slogan is "Function is Beauty")

Vehicle: functionality first, then frugality, then aesthetics

    House: same as above

Wife: she is everything all in one amazing package!

  2. And to answer your question better, when choosing between items, if function is equal, then I'll choose the more beautiful/expensive as long as the price isn't crazy. Take a T-shirt for example. I could find plenty of perfectly good, brand new, cotton T-shirts for probably 4 bucks a piece. But I will usually buy a more fashionable/stylish T-shirt for 18 bucks instead. But I'd never spend 40 bucks for a fancy name brand T-shirt.

Target seems to be a good balance of style and price, but maybe I'm really vain and should be buying the 4 dollar shirts.

Actually I can't remember the last time I clothes shopped for myself except for backpacking gear. Caitie gets my clothes and she has great style and she's super frugal and finds awesome deals. Like I said before, she really has it all.
